French = Good

1. Because I made French toast last night for dinner, and it was delicious.  I love breakfast food for dinner, and we hadn't had French toast forever + not having enough time to make what I really wanted to = yummy, syrupy dinner.  So much for eating well before San Fran/Napa.  (Side note, I have been super domestic in the kitchen lately...maybe a post on this to come?)

2. We replaced our drafty, unattractive sliding glass back door, with beautiful French doors!  And by we, I mean mostly Andrew and his dad.  (You guys know the "we" in my posts is almost always implied by now, right?)

I didn't do as good of job as I should have taking pictures, but I was too busy listening to instructions/getting in the way of progress.  Eventually I banished myself to the basement to paint.  (And never fear, pictures of that to come...just working on a few finishing touches!)

I realized I didn't really take a great before picture, but found this in my iPhoto files.

It was pretty exciting at my house two weekends ago.
Demo.
Put the door in.
Not level.
Bricks in the way.
Chisel.

Repeat, repeat, keep repeating in your head like 10 times.

Small break to make inappropriate gestures with the tape measure that I do have pictures of, but that I will not post on here.  I will post this picture though.  Mwahahaha.

Until finally - it's done.  After only two trips to Lowe's.  It's even more beautiful than what I had pictured in my head.

Complete room view from the eat-in-kitchen/dining room.  I have a rug picked out, I'm still on the hunt for an occasional chair (or two), and I really need to do some work to decorate my built-ins better, but this room is on its way.

Franklin approves.  Now if we could just get him to figure out the door opens from the middle and not from the left...

  1. Ali, it looks AMAZING!!!! The whole room just looks so clean and cozy. I really do need to see this for myself soon! Hazel is having the exact same door issues right now...she just stares at the hinges, waiting for the door to slide.

  4. Great Pictures!! Franklin will have his work cut out for him in figuring it out. Next time you come to KC you will have to look at my new apartment and give me some suggestions on decorating!
