Shoppertunistic

I really wanted to go garage sale shopping on Saturday morning. I was just in the mood to find some fun treasures. Of course it was raining so there were none. Boo.

I went to a couple of consignment shops, but no luck there either.

What a bummer! Don't you hate it when you are in the mood to browse and shop and just can't find anything?

Never fear, I decided to go to TJ Maxx just to look. And, I hit the mother load.

I think I am battling the itch to get started on another project since we finished our family room, so instead of shopping for big pieces, I found lots of little decorative things that can make a big impact.

1. Swapped out my old jewelry box for a new jewelry tree. Love this! I've decided I'm they type that tends to wear the same pieces of jewelry over and over so how fun to have it displayed in such a pretty way.

2. Franklin got a new big boy bed. Now he has one for our family room and one for our bedroom. Doesn't he look huge here?
3. Found this cute vintagey milk bottle carrier. I think I'm going to use this in the family room once we get our couch and move our coffee table. Any suggestions? This could be a cute candle holder...
4. Ever since I got married, I have been obsessed with M's. It's so fun getting things with your new monogram on them! Adding another to the collection...
5. Told you I loved M's. And, I love the stripe, polka dot, paisley combo in these colors for summer. What a stationary steal!And, I'm not going to lie. I also got new Nine West heels and a new wallet. Got my shopping high. Thank you for the shopportunity. :)

A Day in the Life

Contrary to popular belief, most photo shoots are boring. Yes, it's cool to say you're going to a photo shoot and be out of the office, but it usually just means you spend a lot of time holed up in a studio sitting a lot and then are really behind with work when you wrap up. But, this past week we shot for our upcoming summer campaign and the location made it really awesome.

Who can pass up spending a day at someone's house in Preston Hollow in Dallas?

Family Time

I have been trying to get this update posted for a week, but the internet has been against me. So here goes...

Andrew and I spent quite a bit of time on the road two weekends ago visiting both of our families, but it was worth it. After all, it was Mother's Day weekend! We had a great time in Iowa, and my mom had planned for us to go visit a local winery. I know what you are thinking - winery in Iowa. But, it surpassed our expectations - really cute and eclectic. And, pretty good wine!They had built their tasting room into one of the Iowa bluffs and it felt like we were in the middle of a forest; seriously, the trees were surrounding us.What a fun way to spend time with my mom and dad!
We stopped in Hiawatha on the way back to Wichita and had a great time with Andrew's parents and celebrated Mother's Day with Ruth - a wonderful mom, too. :)

We are blessed!

Only downfall of the weekend - Franklin ran into the electric fence for the cows and shocked himself. Twice. Poor little guy, he was traumatized!

Yard Work

Yep, still haven't spread around all 50 bags of mulch. Probably not even 25 of them. But, we did update the flower bed directly to the left of our backyard patio.

We have tons and tons of ideas for our backyard space - fire pit, pergola, wisteria, peonies, hydrangeas, grass that grows - haha, etc. However, we're trying to cut back on our remodeling spending so those will have to wait. (Apparently Andrew is serious about buying himself a camaro on his next birthday...) But, I thought this quick project was a good start to our outdoor updates.

What a difference just moving a few plants around makes. Nothing a few edging stones and mulch can't hurt, either!

(Who am I? When did I start saying these things???)

Family Room Update

I have only done a bit of decorating in our newly renovated family room. I feel like once our couch arrives I'll be more inspired. Too bad it doesn't come until June 8th. Boo! Andrew has already been inspired...to buy a new TV that he apparently built the cabinet around. Why didn't I think of that? I guess the current 20-inch is not acceptable.

I have hung my painting and put a few things on the shelves of our cute cabinet with wainscoting backing, plus started the base of a photo collage...which I definitely intend to add to once I get better at using my new camera.And, big news! Franklin has graduated from his kennel. He sleeps on his bed at night in our room and doesn't tear things up when we're gone during the day. What a big boy. :)

However, now I have a big empty space along the wall between our dining room and family room. I want to find a piece of furniture that can be used for a dry bar. Something used that I can possibly paint...here I come Craig's List!

Beer Cart Friday

I really miss beer cart Friday at TracyLocke. Who doesn't love capping off the week with a brew or glass of wine with your coworkers? In your cube?

So, on Friday evening, Andrew and I had our own happy hour so we can get our wine tasting talents (which we don't have) in shape for Napa with Emily and Adam this November. I can't wait! We tried two Pinot Grigios this weekend.Do any of you winos have any suggestions to try?

At Least We Did Something

Well, we didn't even get close to spreading the 50 bags of mulch purchased last week. We got a late start on Saturday and ended up spending most of the day cleaning our house. Thanks, Franklin, for the crazy amounts of hair you leave on our floors.

But, we did get the garage much more organized on Sunday. Andrew's huge truck even fits. Barely. Yeah!

Only after I took Franklin for a long walk though. He has a new harness that he can't slip out of, and I think he realized walking is a lot harder when you don't start and stop so much and lay in people's yards. :)
Our garage had become pretty crazy since Mitch and Andrew used it as their workspace when building the family room cabinet.
After it was more organized and swept, Andrew aged 30 years and told me he really likes sitting in the garage and drinking beer. Oh geez.
We even got my bike tires aired up. I got this bike for my 10th birthday, and it's been at my parents house for years and years.

I feel like I'm a kid again cruising around Hiawatha. Better call up Halley and tell her I'll meet her at the Sweet Tooth in ten. Only if my mom says it's okay. :)
